It makes you surrounded by familiar pieces but when you are ready to move out, you won’t find it difficult to bring with you.

One small thing, but when you say “my home isn’t my home” and “is someone else’s” do you mean you’re renting and have a landlord? (I am assuming so but I apologize if I’m wrong.) For lots of people, all we’re ever going to do is rent. Renting shouldn’t mean we don’t get to feel like we have a home or that we’re just taking up space in something our landlord has a better claim to. I think it’s useful for a lot of reasons to remember that when you’re renting a home, that doesn’t make it any less your home. (And framing things that way makes this site less exclusionary.) Maybe: “I am renting, and I would like to buy my own home someday, so I am not sure how long I’ll be here.” Everyone is entitled to a feeling of consistency and permanence and some nails in the wall, whether or not they own a house. Thanks again for sharing these thoughts — and how wonderful that you’re feeling that you can settle into your home more.
