The timing on this post was perfect for me. Throughout most of my 20s I was convinced that I would be happy if I could land a decent job as a graphic designer, that was my big goal and what I thought was my passion. I landed that job four years ago and it brings me zero joy and has made me question whether or not this is really the profession for me. I don’t feel creatively fulfilled and I don’t like the clients I’m designing for, BUT it pays the bills and could be much worse. So, just for fun I decided to sign up for a night class at the local community college; I’m learning how to design jewelry and I love it! Looking for joy and creative fulfillment outside of work has really helped me get over the lack of passion I have for my “day job”. Also, therapy. 🙂

This is so refreshing. For a while (ok, several years) I tormented myself with anxiety that I had not turned my love of literature and writing into a lucrative “literary” career. Then I discovered by accident that technical science writing was actually satisfying to me and didn’t drain me emotionally. There are so many haters out there who audibly doubt this kind of choice. We need more affirmation. Thank you!
